Coaching to Improve Performance

Coaching to improve performance

How to get better at what you do in an ever complex environment? How do you ensure that your daily practices reflects what is commonly known in your field? And how can coaching improve performance?

Here is the most traditional path to become a professional. First of all, one goes to a school, studies, practices, graduates and then venture into the world and make it on her/his own. The belief here is that a professional is someone who is capable of managing their own improvement. Somehow, it works! We all went through such a licensing route.

The first years after graduation, one sees improvements in the solving of issues s/he has been trained to master. A while later, some limitations start to arise when s/he doesn’t always recognise the ever greater challenges that pop up on the way. When s/he does, uncertainties arise on  how to overcome them successfully. The result? After a while, professionals reach a plateau and stop improving. The teams perform though the inner motivation and excellence fade from the practice.

The coaching way

Most of us experience the contrasting route every week-end on sport fields. From kindergarten amateur competitions to professional Olympic athletes, we see an often discreet presence close to the performers whose role is coach. The coach supports and challenges a coachee in achieving specific personal and professional goal providing training and guidance. Consequently, the coachee acts on her/his own towards specific objectives. That person’s role is to ensure that the performer is improving her/his skill. When a master,  the athlete stays on top of the game as long as possible.

When was the last time you paid someone to come, observe, ask questions and help you take further steps to improve your craft and live a happier life? Have you ever consider taking such a role to support your team of professionals reach new heights?
